Tom grew up in Orlando, Florida and attended Edgewater High School. He is a 1965 graduate of the University of South Florida with a Bachelor's degree in marketing. Tom is very proud of his duty with the U.S. Marine Corp having served actively from 1966 through 1969 including a tour in Vietnam and continuing his involvement in the Reserves for an additional 20 years—retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1989. Immediately upon discharge from active duty, he began his insurance career with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. After working there for 5 years, he moved into the Independent Agency system working for several locally owned agencies. Prior to he and his partner, Theresa, forming Greene-Hazel & Associates in 1984, he was a Vice-President with Marsh & McLennan in Jacksonville.Tom is a strong community supporter. He has served on the Jacksonville University Council as well as the University of North Florida Foundation. In addition to service to local universities, he was the 2000 president of the River Garden Foundation and maintains an active membership with the Chamber of Commerce Cornerstone Committee, the Insurance Agents of Northeast Florida, along with numerous other clubs and affiliations. He is Past President of Sales & Marketing Executives of Jacksonville as well as the Marine Corps Reserve Officers Association. He was honored in 1992 as Executive of the year by the Insurance Professionals of Northeast Florida. He is licensed for both Property and Casualty as well as Group Life and Health Insurance. He obtained both the Certified Insurance Counselor designation and completed all phases of the Associate in Risk Management curriculum as outlined by the Insurance Institute of America.
